Required Skills & Experience:
OT COMMS (Operational Technology) SME for Power Utility Transmission and Distribution is responsible for managing and overseeing all communication systems and technologies related to the operation and control of power transmission and distribution networks. This role involves ensuring seamless communication between various OT devices, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, substations, and control centres to optimize the efficiency and reliability of the power grid.
Roles and responsibilities:
- At least 8 to 10 years of experience in setting up and maintaining WAN networks - Fibre, DWDM, SDH/PDH, MPLS-TP for large enterprises such as Telco's or Utility Companies.
- Develop and implement comprehensive network architecture designs for SCADA and OT communication systems in the energy sector, considering factors such as bandwidth, reliability, scalability, performance, and security.
- Design and implementation of MPLS-TP network solution for multiple projects (migrating the SDH/PDH networks to MPLS-TP networks.) ensuring compatibility with existing infrastructure and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation of network designs, configurations, and procedures, as well as conduct regular reporting on network performance, security incidents, and compliance status.
- Identify issues, provide resolutions, recommend bandwidth estimations, monitor KPIs- and recommend any upgrades to new technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including SCADA engineers, OT specialists, and IT professionals, to integrate communication networks ensuring seamless operation and data exchange.
- Monitor and optimize the performance of SCADA and OT communication networks, identifying and addressing bottlenecks, latency issues, and other performance constraints to ensure optimal system operation.
- Assess risks associated with SCADA and OT communication networks, proactively identify potential vulnerabilities, and implement mitigation strategies to minimize the risk of system downtime or compromise.
- Provide training and guidance to internal teams on SCADA and OT communication network best practices, technologies, and procedures, fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
- Knowledge of SCADA/IET data communications in a Utility sector is an added advantage.
